After a rainy afternoon yesterday, we had a pretty sunset in Grimbergen.

This is not a post about sunsets. I just did that to be nice for those who twitch at certain topics.
This is about spiders, spiders upon my person, and the things which happened next. Only continue if you can handle such things.

We have had a fairly hectic week. I should likely make another post about it, but perhaps will not. The important thing to note is that, due to three separate things, we have had a lot of clothing and towels and such moved around, washed, and some furniture/stuff shoved into corners.
I was getting a shower last night before bed and I was using a different towel than my normal towels, one I grabbed up off the floor right before the shower. This potentially contributed. I do not know.
What I do know is that after drying off and heading back towards the bedroom, I felt a pain in my neck. Not so sharp that it was debilitating, but fairly ouchie. Let’s say a 4 on the pain scale. Think a wasp sting, sort of. That range, at least. Horseflies come to mind for those that live close enough to swamps/etc to have experienced such a thing.
I, somewhat carefully, reached along the back of my neck and pulled something off.
It was this…

That’s essentially the best picture of it I could take while also in a hurry.
I am pretty sure it’s a yellow sac spider. Like, 90% sure.
A very quick glance online to figure out what to do next I went and spent around 2 minutes washing the bite spot, then we put some ointment on it and let it sit, then I took some anti-inflammatory medicine, then I put ice on it.
THEN I stayed up until around 1:00 to just see if I was going to have any reaction to it.
Yellow sac spiders can bite and do hurt but should be more like a bee sting than a necrotic ulcer type situation. It definitely sucked, because it was there near the spine so treating made me feel feelings in my arms and back.
I’m now keeping track of it. To see if any complications develop over the next day or so.
My theory, by the way, is that either it was in the shower and I didn’t see it or it was on the towel and was also disrupted by all the disruptions. Probably when I was drying my hair it had crawled out and went into something like panic mode.
It was alive when we last saw it, but at the moment I was willing to retaliate. This morning, I’m more forgiving. It still is getting evicted if I see it again, but at least not being emancipated from this mortal coil.
Until, you know, further symptoms show up.
And if I grow the power to stick to walls I’m going to be very annoyed, mostly.
